about

Since the release of ‘Domino’ on Kompakt in 2006, Oxia has delivered numerous EPs and remixes on labels such as Hot Creations, Visionquest, 8bit, Saved ...
He also released his critically acclaimed second album, “Tides of Mind” (2012 - Infine); and in 2016, he launched a new label ‘Diversions Music’ with his friend Nicolas Masseyeff, on which Oxia released his last two EPs.
2016 marks also the tenth-year anniversary of his worldwide hit ‘Domino’, and this is his story.

“Domino was a turning point in my career. Before its release my career was growing steadily thanks to my releases on Goodlife and Intec. I’d also released my first album
“24 heures” (2004), which was in general positively received. However, this was nothing compared to what happened when Domino got released…

While working on this track, somewhere deep down I knew this was special, that it had the potential to be a hit. But I never suspected that it would be that successful. There is obviously a ‘before’ and an ‘after’ Domino – it has been played by DJs affiliated to various genres: house, techno, trance…

For almost 10 years, I didn’t want Domino being remixed. I received so many propositions and I refused them all. But then one night close to its ten-year anniversary, I was having drinks with Seb (Agoria). We started joking about it and he said: “why don’t you re-release it, along with remixes?” I wasn’t really sure about the whole idea but Seb managed to convince me. He was about to launch his own label, which was a project which appealed to me so I gave in and said “let’s do this!”

I have always had the thought that if I ever reissued Domino I’d do a remix myself along other remixes. Then I hesitated, thinking it would be difficult for me to actually do something different with it. So I finally chose to simply rework it. I kept all the elements of the original but I mixed and processed them differently, in a more “up-to-date” fashion because the way I work has evolved since back then.

I used to work on an Atari computer and only with hardware since the Atari only had a sequencer and no plugins and no possibility to record every sound separately. So I found myself working on the track from scratch and re-creating all the parts for the remixers! I can tell you it was one hell of a story between searching for my old gear and recomposing the track again.

Choosing the remixers also took some time. Seb and I selected them. We respect these three artists a lot and we knew they would come up with something interesting, each with their own style and spirit”. OXIA - 2017
